Day 100!

100 days a go, I made a decision to try to reduce my environmental impact.  I started following zero waste and minimal living blogs, watching documentaries, changing my shopping habits, reassessing what I own, making my own toiletries and cosmetics, cutting down on single-use plastics, and even changing my eating habits.

Though I've gradually altered my day-to-day routine, I think the most important shift has been in my awareness.

I now notice how much of what we buy is packaged in plastic.  I now know how quickly plastic waste can pile up, and how much of that eventually ends up in our oceans.  I know the far-reaching effects of plastics in our environment, and how they find their way back to us through the food chain.

I'm aware just how short the life cycle of most products is, which makes it much easier to say no to buying them.  I'm aware of the impact of big box chain stores, and am more motivated than ever not to support them.  I've learned a lot about the impact of animal agriculture on the environment, on the world's rainforests, water supply, and on the global temperature.

I'm tuned in to the deceit behind the marketing of fast fashion, which tells us that we must constantly be buying more to keep up with trends and be socially relevant.  I'm also more suspicious of the health claims of any product, from cosmetics to packaged foods.

I'm more trusting of my own body and my own senses, and have more faith that I don't need all the things society tells me I need in order to be a healthy, happy, fulfilled person.  My lifestyle is starting to line up with my values, and while this is a process that is going to take much longer than 100 days, I feel great about the fact that I've already made a start.

Thank you so much to all of you who have taken an interest in this blog, and who have reached out to tell me that it's resonated with you in some way.  Rest assured, I will keep on writing, and hope to bring you more inspiration and motivation to simplify your own life and reduce your environmental impact as well.

Thank you for joining me on this journey!  Big love from me to you!
